With many websites locating me in Montreal (I'm in the GTA), would I be able to watch the Leafs if I were signed up for Rogers GCL? Would it geolocate me in Montreal so that the Leafs are out of market, or would it locate me in the Toronto area?
Anyone have experience with this?
I used to have un-blockus and the US version, however since that bit the dust with Netflix, I haven't renewed my sub for un-blockus and won't do so again.

Teksavvy---->eBox cable Modem compatibility
After many years with Teksavvy, I have decided to move to ElectronicBox.
Can I use a DCM476 Teksavvy provisioned modem with eBox? The firmware versions are throwing me off; Teksavvy has STAC.02.50 vs eBox AC02.50. One has "ST" the other does not. Are they in fact the same?
Also, what is the deal with Thomson and Technicolor? Are they the same companies? All the physical boxes say Thomson and not Technicolor.
Teksavvy compatibility list:
Technicolor DCM476 2.0 STAC.02.50
Technicolor DCM476 2.1 STAC.02.50
eBox compatibility list:
Technicolor DCM476 2 AC.02.50
Technicolor DCM476 2.1 AC.02.50

Bufferbloat and VOIP quality
Merci!
Bufferbloat = C
Quality = D
Downloading = 68ms (avg)
Uploading = 265ms (avg)

Thinking about Cable 120/20, which is the best modem to buy?
First is the 120/20 really unlimited? I have a cloud backup I have to do will eBox ever give me an issue on this unlimited plan?
Second, I've always had DSL, how will cable be different? Will I get full speeds? Will I be different during peak hours? How so?
Third, which is the best modem to buy and why? I don't need built in router because I already have the amazing Asus AC68.
Thanks

EBox Supported Modems Question
Hey there ! I have a Thomson DCM 475 that I bought brand new from CanadaComputers. Only problem is, it is STAC 55.04. Is this a problem, can it be updated to STAC 55.10 (As mentionned in Supported Modems for Quebec) and can I use it for 15/30/60Mbps cable Internet ?

[Cable] Off to a rocky start
So I went with ebox because the reviews were generally good. Initially I half filled out the form online just to see the total costs and shortly after I get a call asking me if I had any questions because they saw that I had filled out the form but didn't submit. Strike one, there's nothing I hate more than phone calls that don't need to happen. I got another phone call a day after asking the same thing, I still didn't have any questions that couldn't be answered by a google search.
Fast forward and I sign up. I select to pick up a modem at the store. I also select that I would prefer a weekend installation. I get an invoice afterwards and a note saying that they would get back to me with an installation date within 4~11 days. This was odd. Usually I would be able to schedule a date at purchase. I email them asking if they could change a weekend installation to the soonest one available and I get a clipped response saying "We have already sent out the request to our provider and changing your availabilities would mean that we need to resend a request which restarts the delays." Fine, I'll accept that since I was the one who specified weekends only.
Fast forward to a week later and I haven't been contacted at all about when I can pick my modem up or when the installation date is. I call them on a Friday and the woman tells me that they have it scheduled for Tuesday.
1. I feel like that's something I should have been told when it was decided.
2. Why tell me that you can't change availabilities and then schedule me for a weekday installation anyway?
3. After the guy came in and installed the cable, he asked if I didn't have a modem yet and I said no. Why wasn't I told at any point that I could pick up the modem at the store?
I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt and say that I should have just assumed that I could go to the store to pick up the modem since that was the option I selected but at no point was I told that I could go at any time. I'm also willing to accept that this is just the way things are done and that I'm being unreasonable but the impression I got from the 2 phone calls asking me if I needed additional assistance was that the customer service would be the saving grace of this whole decision to go with ebox over all the other options.
This isn't even about the service because I just got it installed this morning and had to go to work after. This is able the small communication break downs that lead to customers wondering if they made the right decision to go with one company over another and so far, there is room for improvement.

Inconsistent 120mb speed. Congestion in Vaudreuil / Ile-Perrot area?
Just recently upgraded to the 120mb package. Ordered Sept 29, delivered earlier today. This morning was great, speedtested 134mb/22mb.
After 6pm, its all over the place. 32mb one test, 64 the other, 94 2 mins later then back to 30mb tests. I am impressed with the congestion management, no dropped packets, response time is pretty good. The throughput measurement is all over the place tho. Is this "growing pains" as people are loading up the 120mb package and testing out the limits of the aggregation points?

Any news on EboxTV ?

Switching from Teksavvy
Hello,
I referred someone to Ebox who is switching over from Teksavvy. It looks as though their Teksavvy service will end on the Oct 16th, but Ebox doesn't start until Oct 20th. Hence, 4 days without internet.
Is there a way to have Ebox begin on the same date as disconnection of Teksavvy?

CRTC nixes wholesale internet rates proposed by big Canadian carriers
http://mobilesyrup.com/2016/10/06/crtc-nixes-wholesale-internet-rates-proposed-by-big-canadian-carriers/
After nixing proposals from big Canadian telecoms, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is setting interim pricing for existing wholesale internet pricing.
The CRTC found that the proposals it received from Bell, Rogers, Telus, Cogeco, MTS, SaskTel and Videotron were not reasonable, as they did not follow established costing principles and methodologies.
Pushing for competition:
Competitors that provide retail internet services to Canadians using wholesale high-speed services must have access to these services at just and reasonable prices, stated CRTC Chairman and CEO Jean-Pierre Blais in a release.
The fact that these large companies did not respect accepted costing principles and methodologies is very disturbing. Whats even more concerning is the fact that Canadians access to a choice of broadband Internet services would have been at stake had we not revised these rates. As always, we strive to create a dynamic competitive telecommunications market for Canadians.
The CRTC had directed the companies to send in proposals for pricing after it launching a proceeding to examine issues associated with these rates, and in 2016 held informational sessions for industry regarding the costing principles and methodologies it desired to see.
Reduced interim rates:
Unhappy with the submissions it received, the CRTC has cut proposed rates for network access by up to 39 percent, and reduced the rate for the transport of internet data by up to 89 percent.
The CRTC says it will continue its in-depth analysis of the notices it received in order to set final rates, and plans to give all parties involved the opportunity to comment on the proposals.
Wholesaling internet is a process in which larger telecom companies are required to grant smaller competitors access to their networks. The process is mandated by the CRTC, which sets all rates, terms and conditions. Budget ISP TekSavvy is one notable example of a company that benefits from this service.

First impression issue - New customer - Faulty DSL modem
I signed up for Ebox almost a month ago and have yet to experience service.
First it too forever to send out a tech to connect the DSL line , secondly when the tech came out, went to the DSL room and connected the line physically, it was discovered that the modem is faulty, both DSL and Internet LEDs are completely off . A replacement modem was requested but Ebox support is now requesting more diagnostics to be run on a modem that failed all diagnostics to begin with, what will that accomplish if the LEDs are out ?
If you want to win over a new customer, send out a new modem so that I can have the service up and running and then you can test the modem all you want after I send it back you. After all, I paid a lot of money for the modem which you provided (used one) and the 1st month of service.
It seems that Ebox does not trust Bell techs and me as the customer is stuck between.
How hard is it to ship me a new, tested modem ?
Secondly, the modem came in a empty box, moving around freely in the box without any kind of padding or bubble wrap, unbelievable when i saw it and not surprising that the modem is faulty.
